Pitt innovators were issued four U.S. patents in November 2023.
Featured Patent: 11,808,754: “Methods and Apparatus to Measure Constitutive Relations and Fiber Orientation of Soft Tissues”
Knowledge of the mechanical behavior or biological tissues, such as myocardium and arterial vessel walls, can help improve disease treatment and management. Pitt innovators have developed a compact, inexpensive device that inform both the mechanical properties and fiber orientation of thick and opaque biological tissues over 3D volumes, giving physicians insight into the integrity of the heart, arteries and other soft tissues.
