Pitt innovators led by Hong Koo Kim, professor of electrical and computer engineering, are developing a new LED with a longer battery life, along with higher brightness, contrast and resolution. The Nano-Eclipse LED (N-LED) is expected to draw significantly less power than current microdisplays, potentially doubling battery life while also offering higher brightness, contrast, and resolution. N-LEDs also have a low material cost compared to traditional LEDs, and size can be scaled down to the nanometer range. This patent joins a family of intellectual property that includes patent numbers 10,529,938 and 11,050,031.
