Idris Soyinka, JD, MS, is a Licensing Associate at the University of Pittsburgh’s Innovation Institute within the Office of Innovation & Entrepreneurship. He holds a Juris Doctor from Georgetown University Law Center and a Master of Science in Biotechnology. At Pitt, he develops and oversees licensing opportunities for university intellectual property, manages a portfolio of cases, evaluates inventions for marketability and patentability, executes commercialization strategies, and negotiates options, licenses, and industry-sponsored agreements to secure University patent rights. His current responsibilities include partnering with faculty in the physical sciences—materials, chemicals, electrical, and energy—with an emphasis on software and copyrights. He works with inventors and outside counsel to manage patent prosecution and maintenance decisions; monitors statutory bars and deadlines; and drafts MTAs, CDAs, and IIAs to protect University IP.
