Surviving of Self (SOS): How the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted our mental health

Join these dynamic speakers as they share presentations about SOS: How the COVID-19 Pandemic has Impacted our Mental Health and the mental health crisis, specifically relating to the impacts of COVID-19.

 

About the Experts

Gina Perez, MD (MED ’99) is an associate professor of psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in the Department of Psychiatry, and she also serves as senior director for medical student education and clinical faculty development. In addition, she is the associate chief of the UPMC Behavioral Health Network and Telepsychiatry. Dr. Perez will be speaking about tele-psychiatry.

Nadine M. Melhem, PhD (SPH ’01) is an associate professor of psychiatry and clinical and translational science at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in the Department of Psychiatry, and she is also the director of the Program for the Neurobiology of Stress Response and Suicide at Pitt. Dr. Melhem will be presenting on the impact of  COVID-19 on mental health in youth. 

Jessica Gannon, MD is an associate professor of psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in the Department of Psychiatry. She is also the medical director of Ambulatory Behavioral Health Informatics, the medical director of Comprehensive Recovery Services Ambulatory Clinics and the CRS director of education and training at UPMC Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic. Dr. Gannon will be presenting on schizophrenia and COVID-19.

Sarah Pedersen, PhD is an associate professor of psychiatry and psychology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Dr. Pedersen will be speaking about the social determinants of racial disparities surrounding substance use during the COVID-19 pandemic. Her research is focused on identifying social and structural influences of inequities in alcohol and substance use outcomes. 

Sansea L. Jacobson, MD (MED ’04) is an associate professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in the Department of Psychiatry. She is the program director of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship and Triple Board Program at UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital. Clinically, she works at the STAR Center and specializes in suicide prevention. In addition, she is the co-chair of the UPMC Graduate Medical Education Wellness, Environment, Learning and Living (WELL) Committee. Dr. Jacobson will be presenting on physician mental health.
