Pittsburgh Gene Therapy Bootcamp

You are invited to join the 2023 Pittsburgh Gene Therapy Bootcamp for weekly public lectures, starting this Friday, August 25th. These lectures will be followed by light refreshments and a meet-and-greet with the speaker. We have an incredible lineup of speakers for this pilot season of the PGTB program, starting with Dr. Joseph Martel, who will be lecturing on gene therapy clinical trials happening here in Pittsburgh.

Speakers in the series include:

Aug 25th: Dr. Joseph Martel, UPMC. Gene therapy clinical trials at UPMC.

Sept 1st: Dr. Dan Chung, CMO, Sparing Vision. Opportunities in Gene Therapy. Followed by a lunch-and-learn panel on opportunities in gene therapy, led by Dr. Chung and Dr. Rob Lin, CEO of Avista Therapeutics.

Sept 22nd: Dr. José-Alain Sahel, Chair of Ophthalmology, UPMC – Optogenetics in the clinic.

Sept 29th: Dr. Henry Greely, Director, Stanford, Program in Neuroscience and Society.  The Ethics of gene therapy and genome editing. Click here to register and receive a Zoom link to the webinar.

Oct 6th: Bailey Bostelman and Eric Bennardo, the Foundation Fighting Blindness. Patient perspectives on gene therapy.

Oct 13th: Panel on career paths in gene therapy. Speakers include Michelle Alabek, Genetic counselor, UPMC, Raymond Miller JD, Partner DLA Piper speaking on patent law, and Leah Byrne, PhD, Assistant Professor, University of Pittsburgh, and CSO, Avista Therapeutics, speaking on academia and industry.

Oct 18th: PGTB Keynote speaker — Dr. John Flannery, Professor of Neuroscience at UC Berkeley, will lecture on Gene Therapy for Retinal Degeneration.

These lectures are free and open to all. With the exception of Hank Greely’s lecture, which is an online webinar, all the lectures will take place from 11:00 – 1:00 in UPMC Mercy conference room 4.221. (Getting to Mercy from Oakland is easy. It’s a 12-minute ride on buses 61A, 61B, 61C, 61D, 71A, 71B, 71C, or 71D to the Mercy stop.)
