The University of Pittsburgh announced that Pitt innovators were issued ten U.S. patents in June 2019.
Shilpa Sant, assistant professor in the departments of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Bioengineering, has developed fibrous hydrogel scaffolds that self-assemble to form an interconnected collagen-like structural hierarchy that when hydrated takes the shape of damaged tissue. Applications include creating regenerative material for therapies in organs that contain collagen, regeneration of neurons and skeletal muscle, fabrication of vascular grafts and migrating malignant cells from tumors to spaces containing cytotoxic drugs.
