The University of Pittsburgh announced that Pitt innovators were issued nine U.S. patents in July 2019.

Featured Patent: U.S. 10,344,003

Beibei Chen, associate professor of medicine and director of the Small Molecule Therapeutic Center, has developed first in class compounds related to inhibiting TGFβ pathway that bind to FIEL1. The compounds can be utilized for the treatment of diseases associated with an activated inflammatory response or idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF).  IPF is a progressive fibrotic disease characterized by massive neovascularization and deposition of extracellular matrix into the interstitium.
