Pitt innovators and the University’s regional entrepreneurial company partners had been setting another strong pace for growth when the COVID-19 pandemic hit in the later part of Fiscal 2020. Although many of their companies, research programs and in-person activities were stopped in their tracks, they quickly adapted to not only adjust to the pandemic but to deal with it head-on.
To celebrate Pitt faculty, students and staff and their tenacity for innovation, we invite you to join us for the 2020-2021 Celebration of Innovation. We will debut several brand-new awards: Startup of the Year and License of the Year and Small Business of the Year.
We will also select a Pitt faculty member to receive the Marlin Mickle Outstanding Innovator award. This award is in recognition of a Pitt Innovator who has demonstrated consistent dedication to achieving societal impact through commercial application of his or her research.
The Emerging Innovator Award will also be presented to an early-to-mid-career faculty member who has shown a keen interest in innovation commercialization and is dedicated to achieving impact through commercial translation of research.
We will also present the Chip Hanlon Volunteer Mentor of the Year Award to recognize the invaluable contributions that volunteer mentors provide to faculty and student innovators.
To celebrate student entrepreneurship across the entire University, a Student Innovator award will be given to student teams who exemplify the passion that Pitt students possess to bring their entrepreneurial dreams to life.
