The University of Pittsburgh reported that Pitt Innovators were awarded nine patents in September 2017.

U.S. 9,770,481 “Novel Inhibitors of Nox1”

A team of Pitt researchers led by Patrick Pagano, Professor and Vice-Chair, Graduate Education, Department of Pharmacology and Chemical Biology, has developed and characterized a Nox1-specific peptidic inhibitor, NoxA1ds, which has potential applications in treating hypertension and cancer (particularly colon cancer). The researchers demonstrated efficacy of NoxA1ds as a treatment of pulmonary artery hypertension in a rodent model. In colon cancer, this peptide blocked NoxA1-Nox1 binding and inhibited colon carcinoma and endothelial oxidants and migration.
